Murray Promoted to Class A Salem-Keizer

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest baseball standout Mike Murray was recently promoted to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, the Class A Short-Season affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

A native of Westfield, N.J., Murray has gotten off a strong start in his professional career. Murray opened his career with the Arizona Rookie League team of the Giants, hitting .400 (12-for-30) with six RBIs and four runs scored in nine games played.

Murray parlayed his strong performance in the rookie league to a promotion to Salem-Keizer, which plays in the Northwest League. In his first start with the Volcanoes on August 6, Murray went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a game-winning, three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. Murray has played in four games with Salem-Keizer and is hitting .333 (5-for-15) with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Murray finished his senior season at Wake Forest with a .345 batting average in 54 games played, including 52 starts. The left-handed hitting catcher also belted six homers and drove in a team-best 53 runs. He led the Deacs with 23 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games in 2010. Over his four year collegiate career, Murray played in 194 games, including 164 starts, and posted a .299 batting average with 20 homers and 142 RBIs. Murray also had 35 doubles over his collegiate career and finished with 198 hits.
