Chas McFarland Signs Contract to Play in Brazil

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest center Chas McFarland has signed a contract to play with Franca of the National Brazilian Basketball League.
McFarland, who graduated from Wake Forest in May, will join Franca in time for the start of the 2010-11 season. Last year, Franca finished fourth in the NBB and advanced to the semifinals of the playoffs.
The Lovington, Ill., native played in the NBA Summer League last month with the Houston Rockets, along with classmate Ishmael Smith. McFarland saw action in two games with the Rockets in Las Vegas.
McFarland was a three-year starter for the Demon Deacons, ending his career ranked eighth all-time at Wake Forest in career blocks. He finished with 594 career rebounds and averaged 7.1 points over 107 career games.
McFarland averaged 7.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as a senior in 2009-10.
