WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Under the direction of sixth-year head coach Heather Kahl Holmes, the Wake Forest volleyball team began its preseason practice schedule on Monday in Reynolds Gym.
Over the course of the next three weeks, the Demon Deacons will take part in 19 team practices and will also be involved in several individual workouts and team scrimmages.
Wake returns 11 letter winners from last year's squad that finished the season 11-20 overall and 9-11 in ACC play. The team's conference record tied them for seventh in the league in 2009.
Of the 11 returners, the Demon Deacons bring back five starters plus their libero. Seniors Kelsey Jones and Kristen White started for the 2009 squad, while fellow senior Megan Thornberry served as the team's libero.
Juniors Carlin Salmon and Kadija Fornah and sophomore Andrea Beck also return from last year's starting lineup.
Wake Forest opens up the 2010 season at home with the Deacon Invitational on August 27 and 28. The Deacs will play Coastal Carolina on Friday at 7 pm before playing East Tennessee State at 12:30 pm and Georgia at 7 pm on Saturday.
All Demon Deacon home volleyball events during the 2010 season will be free admission for all fans in attendance.
