Three Deacons Win on Day One of UVA Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team opened the 2010-11 season on Friday on the first day of the UVA Classic, with Demon Deacon players Zach Leslie, David Hopkins and Conner Sherwood earning singles wins and two doubles teams also earning victories.
The Deacons have six of their younger players competing in the event - sophomores Leslie, Danny Kreyman, Amogh Prabhakar, and Chad Brady; redshirt sophomore Sherwood and junior David Hopkins.
In his first match after missing the 2010 spring season due to injury, Hopkins dominated Alex Das of Eastern Kentucky, winning 6-4, 6-2. Zach Leslie toughed out a three-set win over a quality opponent, beating Benedikt Lindheim of Nebraska 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. Conner Sherwood also won a three-setter, outlasting William & Mary's John Banks 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Two Deacon doubles teams picked up wins, as Leslie and Hopkins cruised past Cornell's Gauthier and Feldman 8-1, and Sherwood and Danny Kreyman topped Eastern Kentucky's Das and Janz 8-4.
The Wake Forest players will continue action on Saturday in the second day of the tournament.
