Men's Tennis To Play in Two Weekend Tournaments

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team will split its squad to compete in two tournaments this weekend, with four players making the trip to Chicago for the OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational and another four players traveling to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Fab 4 Invitational. Both events run from Sept. 17-19.
Jonathan Wolff, David Hopkins, Zach Leslie and Amogh Prabhakar will represent the Deacons at the OFCC Invite, while Iain Atkinson, Tripper Carleton, Conner Sherwood and Danny Kreyman will play for the Deacs at Duke.
Last weekend, six Deacons competed in the UVA Classic, the team's first event of the season. The players were separated into different flights, with Leslie earning third place in his draw and Sherwood claiming fourth place in his. Kreyman won the consolation draw in his flight.
The doubles team of Kreyman and Sherwood got second place in their draw, while Leslie and Hopkins won third place in theirs. Overall the Deacs went 6-3 in doubles play and 10-9 in singles.
Wake Forest's trio of ranked singles players, No. 36 Carleton, No. 68 Atkinson and No. 81 Wolff, will all be seeing their first action of the season this weekend.
Last season, Carleton became the first freshman in Wake Forest history to be selected to the NCAA Singles Championships. Atkinson was named a doubles All-American for his performance in the 2010 NCAA Doubles Championships.
Following this weekend's tournaments, the team will head back up to Charlottesville for the UVA Ranked Plus One event, which will be held Sept. 24-26.
