Three Deacons End UVA Invitational on Winning Note

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team wrapped up its first tournament under head coach Jeff Wyshner at the UVA Invitational with Demon Deacons Kayla Duncan, Martina Pavelec and Kathryn Talbert recording singles wins on the final day of play.
No. 79 Duncan took down Marshall's Dominika Zaparanza 6-1, 6-2, and No. 24 Pavelec defeated Utah's Evgenia Kryuchkova 6-3, 6-2. Talbert rounded out the Deacon singles winners with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Yasmine Alkema (Winthrop).
Both Wake Forest doubles teams ended the tournament with a win, as Duncan and Pavelec took down a team from William & Mary and Cutillo and Mydlowska defeated a tandem from Dartmouth.
The Demon Deacons will have next weekend off from competition before sending representatives to the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif, from Oct. 2-10. Pavelec will play in the qualifying singles draw, while Duncan was accepted into the prequalifying singles draw. The duo will also start play in the pre-qualifying doubles draw.
