
Conway Named Seventh-Best Prospect in NYCBL

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore first baseman/pitcher Matt Conway was named the seventh-best prospect in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, as announced recently by Baseball America.
Baseball America ranked the top 10 prospects in 16 summer leagues, including the NYCBL.
Conway, a native of Birmingham, Mich., played his summer ball with the Amsterdam Mohawks. Conway started 26 games for the Mohawks, hitting .275 with three homers and 24 RBIs. In the field, he didn't make an error in 112 attempts. Conway also pitched in seven games, including two starts, and had an 0-2 record with a 4.67 ERA. For his efforts, Conway was selected to play in the NYCBL Future All-Stars Game.
Conway finished the 2010 season as one of the top freshmen in the country, earning All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball and Ping!Baseball. The Brother Rice High School product hit a team-best .382 during his rookie season with six homers and 32 RBIs in 44 games. Conway finished the year tied for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in batting average and third for batting average by a freshman in Wake Forest history. Conway closed the season on an 18-game hitting streak, the longest active hitting streak in the ACC at the end of the season.
On the mound, Conway pitched in seven games for the Deacs, finishing the season 1-0 with a save and a 6.57 ERA. He earned the win against Kent State on February 27, throwing three scoreless innings.
