The Demon Deacons head back out on the road looking to stop a three-game losing skid when it faces Maryland this Friday. Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m. at the Comcast Center and the game can be seen on the Regional Sports Network.
Wake is coming off a heart-breaking 77-73 overtime loss to Clemson last Sunday. The Deacs held as much as a 15-point lead in the first half but just couldn't hold off the pesky Tigers down the stretch. Clemson was able to overcome a season-high 30 turnovers by shooting 54 percent.
Five Demon Deacons reached double-figures in the loss led by sophomore Lakevia Boykin's career-high 22 points. Boykin tied her career-high with five three points and also dished-out four assists. The 22 points tied Brittany Waters for the most points scored in a game by a Demon Deacon this season.
Sophomore center Sandra Garcia scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds while Brittany Waters poured in 12 points and pulled down a team-high eight boards. Garcia and Waters top the team in scoring as both are averaging in double-figures.
Point guards Brooke Thomas and Chelsea Douglas both finished with 11 points against Clemson. Thomas also led the team with seven assists and four steals. The 11 points marked the fourth time this season that Thomas has reached double-figures. Douglas hit double-figures for the third-straight game and finished 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.
After dropping its first two conference games, Maryland has won three-straight and stands at 16-3 overall. The Terrapins latest win was an 88-65 victory over No. 11 North Carolina last Sunday. Alyssa Thomas scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win.
Thomas tops the squad in both points and rebounds, averaging 13.8 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Lynetta Kizer is grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game and has scored a team-high 252 points on the year. As a team, the Terrapins are outrebounding their opponents by over 14 rebounds per game.
Maryland holds a 50-12 lead in the all-time series between the two teams. Two of Wake's 12 wins in the series have come over ranked Maryland teams, including a 67-65 victory over No. 7/9 ranked Maryland in 1993. That still stands as the highest ranked team Wake Forest has ever beaten.
