WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest had a season-high six players reach double figures as the Demon Deacons grabbed their first ACC win under head coach Jeff Bzdelik with a 76-71 victory over Virginia.

With the win, the Deacons improve to 8-13 (1-5 ACC) on the season while the Cavaliers now hold an 11-10 (2-5 ACC) record.

Sophomore C.J. Harris led Wake with 15 points and also added seven rebounds and six assists. Harris came up huge at the free throw line and hit all 10 of his attempts, including a perfect 8-for-8 performance in the second half.

Travis McKie and Ari Stewart (12 points each), J.T. Terrell and Ty Walker (11 points apiece) and Gary Clark (10 points) joined Harris in double figures.

McKie also grabbed 10 rebounds to record his sixth double-double of the year.

The Deacons shot 48 percent (24-of-50) from the field and were a superb 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) from the free throw line.

The teams traded quick baskets early on, with Virginia grabbing an early 5-2 advantage at the 16:42 mark following a dunk from Assane Sene. The Deacs responded quickly behind the hot shooting of Clark and Stewart, going on a 7-0 run to seize a 9-5 lead.

Wake built its lead to as many as seven, 15-8, with 13:05 remaining, but a 14-4 run by the Cavs capped by a pair of 3-pointers made it 22-19 in their favor at the 8:56 mark.

The game remained close for the rest of the first half, and neither team gained an edge of more than three points. Virginia held a 34-32 advantage heading into the locker room following a pair of free throws by Sene.

K.T. Harrell scored the first five points of the second half for the Cavaliers, who opened up their biggest lead of the afternoon, 39-32.

Wake Forest stormed back thanks to four fastbreak points from McKie and Ty Walker, cutting the lead to 41-38, but Virginia responded with a 7-0 run to build its first double-digit lead of the night.

The Deacons pulled within one, 53-52, after an 8-0 run that spanned just over two minutes. McKie keyed the run with a 3-point play and a monster dunk over the seven-foot Sene at the 10:15 mark, bringing every fan to their feet.

After two buckets in the paint from Walker, the Deacs took their first lead, 58-57, since they led 32-30 with 1:48 remaining in the first half.

The Cavaliers kept the game close, tying the Deacons twice in the final five minutes. Harris took over for Wake Forest in the final 4:14, scoring eight of his 15 points over that span.

Sene led Virginia with 15 points and also had a double-double as he added 13 rebounds. Joe Harris added 14 points while Mustapha Farrakhan also had 13 points.

The Cavaliers were 28-of-54 (51.9 percent) from the field and shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from the line.

Wake Forest will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off and can be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
