Wake Forest will look to get back on the winning path as it host Conference-USA foe Southern Methodist on Monday evening. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum and can be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
The Deacons snapped their four-game losing streak prior to Christmas with a pair of victories against Maryland-Eastern Shore and Furman. But last week, Wake fell behind early to both Appalachian State and Princeton and weren't able to complete the comeback either time.
Against the Mountaineers, senior Brittany Waters led the way with her second double-double of the year, notching 21 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Waters is leading the team with just over 12 points per game and has scored in double-figures in all but four games this season.
Then against Princeton, sophomore Asia Williams made her first career start and responded with a stellar game. The Durham, NC native finished with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a career-high 12 rebounds for her second-career double-double. Williams is averaging 4.3 ppg, and is fourth on the team at 4.5 rpg.
SMU comes into the contest riding a modest two-game winning streak and is 7-5 on the year. The Mustangs picked-up a road victory over UNLV to end the holiday tournament in Las Vegas on Dec. 20, and then returned to action last Thursday with a 69-59 victory at Stephen F. Austin.
Redshirt-senior Delisha Wills leads the team in scoring at 11.4 ppg, but junior Christine Elliot is close behind at 11.2 ppg. Elliot also tops the squad with 8.2 rpg and has 17 blocked shots on the year.
Deacons Wrap-up Home Stand
The Deacons will wrap-up their longest home stand of the season this week. Wake defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore and Furman prior to Christmas before falling to Appalachian State and Princeton last week. The six-game home stand is the longest home streak for the Deacs since the 2007-08 season.
Next Up...
