Three Deacons Reach Singles Finals at WF Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Demon Deacons reached the finals of their singles flights to highlight the Wake Forest women's tennis team's effort on the second day of the Wake Forest Invitational Saturday.
Kayla Duncan, Ryann Cutillo and Brigita Bercyte will play for championships tomorrow after winning two singles matches apiece. Duncan is into the A Singles final after coming out on top in both of her matches Saturday. The Winston-Salem native topped ETSU's Paula Jaime 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before edging Missouri's Maria Christensen 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the semis.
Cutillo has put on an impressive performance in her first tournament of the year, defeating B Singles top seed Ana Bara of VCU 0-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and then cruising past Andressa Garcia of Winthrop in a semifinal match.
In F Singles, Bercyte took down Jessica Brumit of ETSU in straight sets, before emerging victorious in the last match of the day, outlasting UNC Greensboro's Kayla Gammie 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Duncan will take on No. 93 Alex Bara (VCU) for the A Singles title. Cutillo will face Manuela Velasquez (Louisville) for the B Singles championship. Bercyte will fight Louisville's Gabi Duncan for the F Singles crown.
Play will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. Admission is free at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
