Demon Deacons Perfect in Doubles at ITA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - All three Wake Forest doubles teams won Friday to advance to the Round of 16 and three Demon Deacons were also victorious in singles as the Deacs continued play at the ITA Carolina Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The nation's seventh-ranked duo of Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert, who are seeded second in the draw, downed Elon's Maria Camara and Jordan Johnston in their first match of the tournament. They will take on Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters tomorrow for a spot in the quarterfinals.
In Wake Forest's most dramatic match of the day, Zane Zarina and Rebecca Siegler faced a match point before rallying for a 9-8 (4) victory over Maria Hesketh and Mikaela Kristofferson from Coastal Carolina. They move on to face fourth-seeded Lauren McHale and Haley Hemm of North Carolina.
The Deacons' third doubles team of Ryann Cutillo and Karen Forman also found success, topping UNC Wilmington's Christina Lee and Alyssa Ritchie 8-4. They will be up against Duke freshmen Beatrice Capra and Esther Goldfield, the No. 3 seeds, in tomorrow's Round of 16.
On the singles side, Wake Forest's only seeded player, No. 9 seed Duncan, blew past Kayla Cross from North Carolina A&T 6-0, 6-1. She will face UNC's Tessa Lyons tomorrow.
Cutillo and Forman both earned wins over Big South opponents. Cutillo topped Campbell's Karolina Chernaya 6-3, 6-2 and Forman defeated Coastal Carolina's Mihaela Bunea 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Cutillo will face Clemson's No. 84 Nelly Ciolkowski, a No. 5 seed, tomorow and Forman will play the tournament's top seed, No. 6 Zoe De Bruycker of North Carolina.
