Deacons Struggle on Opening Day of Eck Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team won only one match in singles and doubles against opponents from Notre Dame as it opened play at the Eck Classic which is being hosted by the Fighting Irish. In other action for the Deacons in Flushing, N.Y., Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert won their final back draw doubles match at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships.
Duncan and Talbert topped Kerrie Cartwright and Audrey Leitz of Tyler Junior College 8-2 in their final match of the national championship event.
Things did not go as well at Notre Dame as only Brigita Bercyte was able to post a win, defeating the Irish's JoHanna Manningham 6-4, 6-4. The Deacs will continue play in the tournament tomorrow.
