WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Katie Stengel and Aubrey Bledsoe were named to Soccer America's National MVP teams and Kim Marshall made the All-Freshman Team, as announced by the organization Thursday.
Stengel, a forward, made the MVP First Team, following up on the 2010 season when she was named to Soccer America's Freshman Team. Bledsoe, a goalkeeper, was selected to the MVP Second Team. The Soccer America honors were the latest national awards for the two Deacons after they were last week both named to the NSCAA's All-America teams.
After leading the ACC with 19 goals and 46 points this season - both new Wake Forest records - Stengel has collected an impressive haul of awards, including ACC Offensive Player of the Year, NSCAA First Team All-America and First Team All-ACC. She was a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy. The Melbourne, Fla. native ranked in the top 10 in the country in both goal and point scoring.
Bledsoe all 2,428 minutes for the Demon Deacons this season, finishing the year as the national leader for minutes played by a goalkeeper. She kept 14 shutouts, a new Wake Forest single-season record and a mark that tied for the 12th-most in Division I history. For her accomplishments, she also brought in a collection of honors which included NSCAA Second Team All-America and First Team All-ACC.
Marshall, a defender, joined the Wake Forest lineup immediately as a freshman, playing in all 26 games for the Demon Deacons this season and starting 25 of them. She was an integral part of the Wake Forest back line that helped the Deacons keep 14 shutouts and put up a 0.74 goals against average that ranked as the lowest in program history. The Long Beach, Calif. native scored the first two goals of her career in the ACC Tournament and was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team, in addition to taking home ACC All-Freshman Team honors.
Bledsoe, Marshall and Stengel helped Wake Forest to the best season in program history. The Demon Deacons reached the NCAA College Cup for the first time and finished the year with an 18-4-4 record.
