Former Wake Forest All-American Lauren Crandall has been named to the 2011 Pan American Elite Team, as announced by the Pan American Hockey Federation.
Hockey specialists present at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara and at the 2011 Pan American Challenge in Rio de Janeiro were consulted for the selection of this year's Elite Teams.
Since 2007, the Pan American Elite Teams have been named every two years to recognize the top players in the Pan American region.
Crandall headlined the women's squad, as she served as captain of Team USA. She led the red, white and blue to USA's first victory over Argentina in the history of the Pan American Games.
Of the 16 women selected to the Pan American Elite Team, four were for the United States. Rachel Dawson and Jackie Kintzer are both North Carolina graduates, while Katie O'Donnell played at Maryland, giving the Atlantic Coast Conference all four of the selections for the USA. Argentina and Chile each had three selections, Canada had two and Barbados, Cuba, Mexico and Uruguay each had one.
By winning the 2011 Pan Am Games for the first time, USA earned a berth in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
