Women's Tennis Swept by No. 11 Tennessee

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team suffered its second-straight loss to a top 15 opponent, falling 7-0 to No. 11 Tennessee at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Sunday.
The No. 56 Demon Deacons fall to 2-3 on the season while the Lady Vols improve to 6-0.
Not much went right for the Deacons, who were missing top player Martina Pavelec due to illness. Tennessee swept all nine doubles and singles matches as Wake struggled to build any momentum.
In singles, the Lady Vols picked up their first win at No. 3, where Emilee Malvehy retired after dropping the first set to No. 116 Maria Sorbello. Tennessee earned the clinching wins at the bottom two positions as Anna Mydlowska and Brigita Bercyte were overcome at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Wake's best performance came at No. 1 singles where Kathryn Talbert, who was forced into the top slot because of Pavelec's absence, played Natalie Pluskota tight, eventually falling 7-6 (3) 6-4.
The Deacons will have next weekend off before hosting NC State in their ACC opener on Feb. 27.
