The Demon Deacons fall to 8-20 (1-12 ACC) on the season, while the Hokies improve 18-8 (8-5 ACC).
Virginia Tech shot 60 percent (27-of-45) from the field in the game, the best shooting mark for a Wake Forest opponent this season. The Hokies also went 8-of-12 (67 percent) from behind the arc, including a 5-of-7 mark in the first half that they used to build a 13 point halftime lead.
McKie pulled down nine rebounds to supplement the 22 points that tied a career high set earlier in the season against Elon. The freshman has posted back-to-back 20 point games and has hit double figures in five of the last six contests.
Gary Clark also reached double digits, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
The Demon Deacons were able to find offense inside, outscoring the Hokies 30-18 in the paint, but Virginia Tech dominated the backboards, outrebounding Wake Forest 35-23.
Three Hokies finished with 17 points: Jeff Allen, Malcolm Delaney and Jarell Eddie. Eddie led Tech with nine rebounds.
Virginia Tech used strong shooting to build a first-half lead. The Hokies shot 71 percent (5-of-7) from behind the three-point arc in the opening period and 56 percent overall.
The Hokies took an early 11-4 advantage, but a 6-0 run by the Deacons, sparked by two jumpers from C.J. Harris, brought them within a point at the 13:10 mark of the opening period.
Virginia Tech again pushed its lead to six, but Nikita Mescheriakov helped lead a Wake Forest response, scoring four points to cut the Hokie advantage to only two points at 20-18. Then it was the Hokies turn to surge. Jarell Eddie and Erick Green connected from distance helping a 10-2 run that gave Tech it's largest margin yet at 30-20.
The Hokies scored the last four points of the half to take a 38-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
Virginia Tech continued its strong shooting in the second half, making seven of its first nine field goal attempts to stretch the advantage to 21 points at 56-35.
Travis McKie slammed home a dunk to cut the advantage to 17 points at 69-52 with 3:21 to play. After a Hokie free throw, Tony Chennault cut the lead to 16 points. On the next two Wake Forest possessions, Gary Clark and C.J. Harris connected from deep, cutting the Hokie lead to 12 points at 74-62.
The Demon Deacons will hit the road to face Clemson on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum. The game will be broadcast by RSN and can also be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
