No. 22 Tar Heels Edge Demon Deacons 4-3

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team earned wins in three singles matches but was unable to find a fourth point, falling to No. 22 North Carolina 4-3 at Hanes Park Sunday.
The No. 34 Demon Deacons drop to 6-6 (0-2 ACC) while the Tar Heels improve 7-4 (2-0 ACC).
The Heels jumped out to an early lead by claiming a close doubles point, but Wake Forest fought hard in singles, winning the first set in three matches to set the stage for a close finish. In the end, the Tar Heels were able to close out the three matches in which they had won the first set to clinch the 4-3 win.
Wake chalked up two ranked victories in the match. At No. 2 doubles, Iain Atkinson and David Hopkins teamed up to take down No. 59 Joey Burkhardt and Stefan Hardy. In singles, Danny Kreyman defeated No. 103 Burkhardt 7-6 (2), 4-6, 1-0 (2) at the No. 4 spot.
Iain Atkinson was the first one off the court in singles, cruising past Stefan Hardy 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. David Hopkins got Wake Forest's third win, taking a marathon third-set tiebreak to defeat Zach Hunter 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (12).
North Carolina's deciding win came at No. 5 singles where William Parker took down Adam Lee 6-3, 6-4.
The Demon Deacons will hit the road for two ACC matches next weekend. Wake Forest takes on Clemson on Friday at 2:30 before traveling to Georgia Tech for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.
