COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Wake Forest women's golf team hung tough in the Texas wind on Thursday afternoon to post a 307 in the second round of the NCAA Championships at the Traditions Club. Senior Natalie Sheary led the team with a round of 2-over 74.

The Deacons started the second round in ninth place but got off to a rocky start. After righting the ship at the turn, the Deacs made a couple of birdies late on the back nine to finish with a round of 19-over 307. Wake is in 17th place through two rounds.

Sheary played her second-straight steady round, making 14 pars on the day. Her lone birdie came at the par-5 eighth hole and she would give herself numerous other opportunities. Sheary is 2-over par and tied for 17th.

Freshman Olafia Kristinsdottir had a great second round, making her first two birdies of the championship en route to posting a 3-over 75. That broke a string of four-straight rounds in the 80s and it was her lowest round since a second round 72 at the Bryan National Collegiate on March 26.

Sophomore Michelle Shin made six birdies in the opening round but the birdies didn't come as easy on Thursday. She managed to make a pair of them in the round and like Kristinsdottir, she would post a 3-over 75. Shin is currently in a tie for 10th at 1-over par.

Junior Cheyenne Woods had a tough time on the greens yesterday and struggled to find her mark again on Thursday. She made a birdie at the par-5 eighth but made just nine pars and would card an 11-over 83. That was her highest round since her freshman year.

Senior Allie Bodemann was done-in by the big number on Thursday as she would post an 86.

LSU's Austin Ernst played in the morning wave and made a total of seven birdies en route to firing a 6-under 66. She has a three-shot lead on Purdue's Numa Gulyanamitta, who is at 3-under par.

In the team race, UCLA followed its opening round 289 with a second round 295 and has a three shot lead at 8-under par. Purdue is in second at 11-over par and LSU is third at 12-over.

The Demon Deacons will start the third round at 9:06 a.m. CST off the tenth tee. Wake is paired with Stanford and Alabama. NCAASports.com will have live scoring of the final two rounds.
