GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest starting pitcher Tim Cooney has been named to the 2011 All-ACC Baseball Team as announced by the conference office on Monday. Voting was conducted by the league's 12 head coaches.

In his first season being named All-Conference, Cooney was awarded with Second Team All-ACC honors. He is Wake Forest's first All-ACC selection since Allan Dykstra was named Second Team All-ACC after the 2007 season.

The Collegeville, Pa. native has posted a 7-2 record and a 2.53 in 13 starts this season. His ERA is good enough for eighth in the conference, while his 92.1 innings of work are fifth in the ACC. In addition, Cooney's strikeout to walk ratio has been excellent with 86 strikeouts and just 16 walks.

The only Demon Deacon to start in all 10 ACC series, Cooney put together a 6-1 record and a 2.61 ERA in 72.1 innings against ACC competition. He was one of only seven pitchers in the conference to win six or more league games, and his 72.1 innings in the ACC were second behind Georgia Tech's Mark Pope (77.2).

Cooney's reliability has been key for the Deacs, as he has pitched into eighth inning in seven of his starts and has not allowed more than four runs in any of his 13 starts.

On March 6 against Radford, Cooney went six innings without giving up a run and struck out a career-high 14 batters, which is tied for the second-most by any Wake Forest hurler in a game.

Two of his best performances of the season came on the road in hostile ACC environments.

On March 26 at Florida State, Cooney went 7.2 innings, scattered five hits and struck out 11, helping the Demon Deacons shut out the Seminoles for the first time in Tallahassee since April 1, 1967. His efforts against FSU helped him earn ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time of his career.

At Clemson on April 23, Cooney was again brilliant, pitching his first-career complete game. He struck out seven batters, walked nobody and allowed just two earned runs in a 9-3 Wake Forest victory.

Wake Forest will compete in this week's ACC Baseball Championship in Durham, N.C. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Demon Deacons finished the regular season with a 25-28 record and a 15-15 record in ACC play.
