Wake Forest Volleyball Announces 2011 Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team has announced its schedule for the 2011 season which features 31 matches.
Under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Heather Kahl Holmes, the Demon Deacons will play a total of 12 matches against eight teams that participated in the 2010 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
Non-conference foes LSU, Western Kentucky and High Point were among the field of 64, while Duke, Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech and North Carolina represented the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Wake Forest will begin the 2011 campaign on Tuesday, August 30, when Gardner-Webb visits Reynolds Gym at 7 p.m.
The Demon Deacons will then participate in three consecutive weekend tournament, including the Deacon Invitational, the Western Kentucky Tournament and the Black & Gold Challenge.
WFU will play host to four teams at the Deacon Invitational on September 2-3, taking the court against North Florida (7-22 2010 Record), Arkansas (14-17), Charleston Southern (13-20) and Georgetown (15-15).
The Deacs will travel to the Western Kentucky Tournament on September 9-10 to play LSU (25-5), Western Kentucky (27-9) and Xavier (20-10).
The final early-season tournament in which Wake Forest will be involved is the team's second home event, the Black & Gold Challenge. The Demon Deacons will begin the ACC portion of their schedule with Duke (27-7) on Friday, September 16 and will play either Charlotte (16-15) or High Point (22-13) on Saturday, September 17, to wrap up the tournament.
Wake Forest will have another non-conference battle before entering the bulk of their ACC when it travels to Appalachian State (18-12) on September 20.
The Demon Deacons will then play 19 of its last 20 matches against ACC competition. The Deacs' lone non-conference match during that stretch will be at home against VCU on November 1 at 7 p.m.
Wake will play 11 ACC opponents at home and nine on the road this season. The Demon Deacons will also play every school twice except for North Carolina (25-10) and NC State (14-18).
The team's first and longest road trip of the season will span from September 30 - October 7 with trips to Miami (23-9), Florida State (22-11), Virginia Tech (20-12) and Virginia (14-16).
Wake Forest will have two separate four-game, conference homestands and will end the season with three consecutive ACC matches on the road.
The NCAA Tournament is scheduled to begin on December 2 and will culminate in the championship match on Saturday, December 17.
The Demon Deacons finished the 2010 season with a 19-12 overall record and an 11-9 record in ACC play. The 11 conference wins is the most in school history, as the Deacs won their final match of the season in sweeping fashion over 2010 ACC Champion Duke.
