WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior Ryann Cutillo will serve as captain of the Wake Forest women's tennis team for the 2011-12 season, head coach Jeff Wyshner announced today.
"As a program, we don't always have a captain, but Ryann's leadership, consistent effort and consideration for her teammates made us feel that she was deserving of the honor and up to the challenge of being put in a more prominent position," said Wyshner.
"With three freshman coming in next fall, it is important to have strong upperclassman leadership," said Wyshner. "I am confident that Ryann will do well as a role model and advisor to the younger players on the team."
In her first three years at Wake Forest, Cutillo has collected 44 singles victories and 31 doubles wins. Last season she played in 21 of the Demon Deacons' 22 dual matches with her best doubles win coming against No. 16 Maria Fuccillo/Rashmi Teltumbde (Virginia) and her best singles result coming in a three-set victory over Notre Dame's No. 78 Chrissie McGaffigan.
The Demon Deacons will begin 2011 fall tournament play on September 16 at the UVA Fall Invitational before returning home to host the Wake Forest Invitational from September 30 through October 2, which will serve as the first collegiate event at the new outdoor tennis facility being constructed adjacent to BB&T Field.
