
Mac Williamson Drafted by the Boston Red Sox

SECAUCUS, N.J. - Wake Forest redshirt sophomore Mac Williamson was selected by the Boston Red Sox on the third day of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, held on Wednesday.
The Wake Forest left fielder was taken by the Red Sox in the 46th Round (1,402 overall) and is now the 90th Demon Deacon player or recruit to be drafted since the 1989 draft.
A native of Wake Forest, N.C., Williamson led the Demon Deacons in several offensive categories, including batting average (.273), hits (56), home runs (12) and RBIs. He was also a mainstay in left field, starting all 56 games there for Wake Forest.
His 12 homers ranked tied for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference after the completion of the 2011 ACC Baseball Championship.
Williamson provided in other areas as well, ranking second on the team with a .493 slugging percentage and third on the team with 11 stolen bases.
In the outfield, Williamson committed just three errors and displayed a strong arm with four outfield assists.
Over his first two years for the Demon Deacons, Williamson has 19 home runs, 86 RBIs, 23 stolen bases and a .276 batting average in 107 games played. He has been in the starting lineup in 102 of those games.
