Atkinson/Hopkins Finish No. 39 in National Doubles Rankings; Wolff Ranked No. 82 in Singles
Wake Forest's top doubles team of Iain Atkinson and David Hopkins finished at No. 39 in the national doubles rankings, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association today. Jonathan Wolff joined them on the national charts, ending the year at No. 82 in singles.
Atkinson and Hopkins went 8-4 in doubles in 2011, playing mostly at No. 1, including 7-2 against conference foes. Wolff spent most of the year at the No. 1 singles position, finishing with a 21-18 record, including nine wins against ranked opponents.
Deacons Will Travel to Florida for 2012 ITA Kickoff Weekend
The Wake Forest men's tennis team will head south in search of warmer weather next January when it travels to the University of Florida for the ITA Kickoff weekend. The Demon Deacons will open the weekend with a match against Miami on Saturday, January 29. In the other opening day match, Florida will face off against New Mexico.
The two winners from Saturday will play each other on Sunday for a berth in the ITA National Indoor Championships, while the two losers from the first day will play a consolation match.
The remainder of the 2011-12 schedule will be released in the upcoming weeks
Five Demon Deacons Represented in Final Regional Rankings
Five Wake Forest players appeared in the final individual rankings for the Carolina Region, while the Demon Deacons came in third in the team rankings.
Jonathan Wolff was ranked fourth in the region in singles, which includes all Division I schools in North and South Carolina, while Tripper Carleton was ranked ninth, Iain Atkinson was ranked 10th and Danny Kreyman was ranked 16th. Wake Forest tied with Duke and North Carolina for the most players in the final regional singles rankings.
Wake Forest's top doubles team of Atkinson and David Hopkins were ranked as the fourth-best duo in the region.
