With the Win
• Wake Forest improves to 2-1 on the season
• Jim Grobe's record at Wake Forest is 64-61 and his career record is 97-94-1
• Wake Forest is 12-3-1 against current members of the Big South

Defense Stepping Up
• The Demon Deacon did not allow a touchdown for the first time since Sept. 20, 2008 when Wake defeated Florida State 12-3 in Tallahassee.
• The 139 total yards allowed were the fewest since Wake held Clemson to just 198 yards of offense on Oct. 9, 2008 in Winston-Salem.
• The Deacs also held Gardner-Webb to fewer rushing yards than carries. The Runnin' Bulldogs managed just 22 yards on 25 carries.
Brothers Dent The Scoreboard In The Same Game
• Senior Chris Givens and his half-brother Nick Knott each recorded touchdowns in the win over Gardner-Webb.
• That was the first time a pair of brothers both scored in the same game for the Deacons since Nov. 16, 1946 against North Carolina. nick Sacrinty recorded a touchdown while his brother Bo Sacrinty knocked-home a pair of PATs.
Tanner Price Off To A Great Start
• Sophomore Tanner Price finished the game 21-of-32 for 281 yards which gives him a total of 867 yards passing through the first three games. That is the second-most passing yards through the first three games of the season by a Deacon QB. Mike Elkins in 1986 passed for 884 yards.
• It is also his third-straight game with at least 280 yards passing.
Chris Givens Extends His Streak
• With 85 receiving yards tonight, senior Chris Givens has 366 receiving yards through the first three games of the year. That is the best start ever by a Wake Forest receiver. The previous 3-game high was 304 by Ricky Proehl in 1988.
• He has now caught a pass in the last 18 games he has played dating back to October 31, 2009.
• Givens also caught his third touchdown pass of the season.
Givens Does More Than Catch Passes
• Chris Givens recorded his second-career punt block in the second quarter.
• That was the first punt block for the Deacs since Givens blocked a punt at Vanderbilt in the final game of the 2010 season.
Pendergrass Reaches Paydirt For The First Time
• Senior running back Brandon Pendergrass had his best game of the young season, finishing with 49 yards on 10 carries.
• He also recorded his first rushing touchdown of the year and the ninth of his career.
• It was his first rushing touchdown since October 2, 2010 against Georgia Tech.
• Wake is now 7-2 when Pendergrass scores a touchdown.
Danny Dembry Continues to Step Up
• Senior WR Danny Dembry finished the game with a career-high eight catches for a career-best 126 yards.
• He tied a career-high with six catches and surpassed his career-high with 102 yards receiving in the first half.
Quarles Does It Again
• Senior safety Cyhl Quarles finished the game with a team-high tying five tackles. Quarles has now led the Deacons in tackles in each of the first three games of the season.
Jackson Breaks Out
• RS Junior Lovell Jackson entered the day with one career reception and finished the game with three catches for 37 yards.
• He also added a career long 65 yard kick return.
Newman Nails Two
• Junior kicker Jimmy Newman entered the season with a streak of 13 consecutive made field goals before missing in the season opener. Since that miss, the Alabama-native has started a new streak with six straight makes.
• He has made seven field goals through the first three games. That is the second-highest streak behind Sam Swank's nine in the first three games of a season.
• Newman also had four touchbacks in the game.
Miscellaneous Notes
• Game Captains for Wake Forest were Cyhl Quarles and Danny Dembry
• The Open the Gate guest was Murray Greason, Jr.
• Wake Forest won the coin toss and elected to receive
• Steven Chase started at right tackle in place of Dennis Godfrey. It was Chase's first career start
• and broke Godfrey's streak of 14 consecutive starts.
• Patrick Thompson completed his first career pass to Keenon Rush. That was also Rush's first career reception.
• Nick Knott made his first career appearance and finished the game with 30 yards on seven carries. He also scored his first rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
