Hopkins, Kreyman Claim Singles Victories at UVA Ranked + 1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Senior David Hopkins and junior Danny Kreyman each won their respective singles matches Friday afternoon at the UVA Ranked + 1 Invitational. Play was moved indoors to the Boar's Head Sports Club due to rain.
The match marked the start of new head coach Tony Bresky's position at the helm of the Demon Deacon program.
Hopkins shined in his season debut, defeating Binghamton's Bastian Bornkessel in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. With the victory, Hopkins advances to the quarterfinals of the Blue Singles draw where he will face Virginia's Justin Shane on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Kreyman claimed his victory in the White Singles draw, defeating Virginia Tech's Patrick Daciek in three sets. Kreyman dropped the first set, 3-6, but he battled back in strong fashion, claiming 6-4, 6-0 victories in the final two sets.
Kreyman advances to the quarterfinals of the White Singles where he will face Radford's Stijn Meulemans on Saturday at noon.
Sophomore Adam Lee also competed in singles play for the Deacs on Friday, falling by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to Illinois' Roy Kalmonovich in the Orange Singles bracket.
Lee will now face George Washington's Ugur Atalay in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket on Saturday at noon.
Lee and Kreyman teamed up for Wake Forest in doubles play, but fell 8-5 to Jesus Bandres and Sander Gille of East Tennessee State in the quarterfinal round of the Orange Doubles bracket.
The duo will receive a bye in the semifinals and automatically advance to the championship match of the consolation bracket on Sunday at 9 a.m.
