COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Wake Forest dropped a 5-0 decision to ACC foe Maryland on Saturday afternoon at the Terrapins' Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.

The Terps got two goals each from Megan Frazer and leading scorer Jill Witmer, and Katie Gerzabek added a score late in the first half as well.

The Deacs now stand at 1-7 (0-2 ACC) on the season, while Maryland improved to 8-1 (2-0 ACC).

Maryland jumped out to an early lead after unassisted goals in the eighth and 31st minutes by Frazer and Gerzabek. Frazer struck again just 39 seconds into the second half to build a 3-0 lead, and Witmer's pair of goals in the 38th and 46th minutes put the game out of reach for the Demon Deacons.

Wake Forest had several opportunities throughout the game, but was ultimately unable to capitalize. Four separate players put a shot on goal against Maryland's Melissa Vassalotti: freshmen Anna Kozniuk and Christine Conroe, sophomore Molly Murphy and senior Kaitlin Piosa.

Kaitlyn Ruhf made seven saves in the contest before giving way to freshman Letitia Nichols midway through the second half. Nichols made a pair of excellent saves late in the match as she made her collegiate debut.

The Deacons will return to action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Newark, Del., to face the Delaware Blue Hens at Rullo Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
