TULSA, Okla. - Wake Forest's 94th-ranked Danny Kreyman came from behind to win a three-setter in the final round of singles qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships, earning a berth in the main draw on Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla.
Kreyman's victory came in dramatic fashion as he saved three match points to get past Drake's Robin Goodman. Goodman took the first set 6-1 before Kreyman rallied to win the second in a marathon 13-11 tiebreak before pulling out a 6-4 win in the deciding set.
By virtue of his victory, Kreyman booked a spot in the highly competitive 64-player singles main draw of the tournament, which is one of three individual national championships on the annual calendar. He will play his first round match on Thursday against fourth-seeded and fifth-ranked Nik Scholtz of Ole Miss at 8 a.m. Central Time.
Also beginning play in the tournament Thursday is Wake Forest's 17th-ranked doubles team of David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar, who are competing in the 32-team doubles main draw. They will face No. 22 Gonzales Austin and Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt in the first round at 5 p.m.
