WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will open play at the 2012 ACC Field Hockey Championship by taking on No. 17 Boston College on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at North Carolina's Francis E. Henry Stadium.
Heading into the postseason, the Deacs are 8-10 overall with a 1-4 mark in conference games, while the Eagles are 10-8 and 2-3 against ACC opponents.
The last meeting between the two occurred just last Friday in Chestnut Hill, Mass., when Boston College came from behind with two late goals to spoil the regular season finale for the Deacons by a final score of 2-1. Anna Kozniuk scored Wake's lone goal in the contest.
Wake Forest will be looking to extend its streak of consecutive ACC tournaments with at least one victory on Thursday as well. The Deacs have claimed at least one win in the postseason tournament every year dating back to 2001, and have actually defeated the Eagles in the quarterfinals in each of the last four seasons.
Overall, the Demon Deacons hold a 12-3 edge in the series history against Boston College, and the loss last week was their first in the series since 2010. The rivalry has also become known for its very close contests. Nine of the 15 games have been decided by a single goal, including the last six in a row.
Top-seeded and No. 1-ranked North Carolina awaits the winner of the matchup in Friday's semifinals at 1:00 p.m.
