DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Wake Forest played a doubleheader at the Dominican Summer League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, falling to the Royals 5-2 before shutting out the National Army Team 2-0 on Wednesday.

Conor Keniry collected three of the Demon Deacons' eight hits against the Royals, going 3-for-5 with three singles. Charlie Morgan also went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Both of Wake Forest's runs came on a double to center field by James Harris, scoring Morgan and Kevin Jordan.

Matt Pirro, Matt Conway, Will Finley and Colin Egan then combined to shut out the National Army Team (Ejercito Nacional). Pirro started, went three innings and gave up one hit, while Conway and Finley did not give up a hit in two innings apiece.

Jack Carey collected both of Wake Forest's RBIs in the win, going 1-for-3. Carey scored Morgan from first base with a triple to right center in the fourth innings and brought home Joey Rodriguez on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

The Demon Deacons ended the night with a trip to San Pedro de Macoris to watch a Dominican Winter League game featuring the visiting Leones de Escogido and Las Estrellas Orientales.

Perhaps the highlight of the day came when the team was leaving and was greeted by New York Yankee second baseman Robinson Cano. Cano shook everyone's hand, signed a jersey for head coach Tom Walter and posed for a photo with the team.
