Postgame Notes - Wake Forest vs. Duke

February 28, 2012

Joel Coliseum - Winston-Salem, N.C.

FINAL: Duke 79, Wake Forest 71

Team Records and Series Notes:

• Duke improves to 26-4 on the season (13-2 ACC) while Wake Forest drops to 13-16 (4-11).

• The Wake Forest-Duke series is the oldest in the ACC, dating back to the 1906 season.

• Wake Forest dropped to 10-11 at LJVM versus Duke. The Deacons have won five of eight at home in the series.

• The Demon Deacons will conclude the regular season when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia Tech Saturday at noon. The game will be available on the ACC Network and ESPN3.com. Wake Forest will be looking to sweep the series after posting a 59-50 defeat of the Yellow Jackets on Feb. 15 in Winston-Salem.

Wake Forest Team Notes:

• Key Run: After C.J. Harris knocked down a three-pointer to give Wake Forest a 12-11 advantage, Duke rattled off 12 straight points including five points from forward Ryan Kelly. Nikita Mescheriakov's spin move and ensuing layup at the 9:47 mark eventually stopped the Blue Devils' spurt. Mescheriakov would go on to score the next four points for the Deacs off a three-pointer and a free throw.

• Key Stat: Wake Forest reeled off a 21-4 run from the 11:43 mark to the 4:53 mark of the second half to close within six of Blue Devils.

Wake Forest Individual Notes:

• Junior C.J. Harris was presented with a commemorative basketball prior to the game by head coach Jeff Bzdelik in honor of scoring his 1,000th career point against North Carolina on Jan. 31

• The Deacs honored five seniors in a pre-game ceremony: Brooks Godwin, Aaron Ingle, Ryan Keenan, Nikita Mescheriakov, and Ty Walker.

Nikita Mescheriakov registered a new career-high 18 points, surpassing his previous best of 15 points recorded on Nov. 20, 2011, against NC Central. The senior also set new career bests of seven made field goals in a single game and 13 field goals attempted.

• Sophomore Carson Desrosiers has now hit five of his last eight three-pointers on the season after knocking down two against Duke. He drained three of four treys against Boston College on Saturday.

• With his two blocked shots against Duke, Ty Walker moved into fifth place on Wake Forest's career blocked shots list with 144 blocks, passing former Deacon Josh Howard's mark of 143 blocks. It has taken Walker just 70 career games to reach the milestone.

• Junior Travis McKie registered 14 points on the evening, marking his seventh straight game in double-figures.

• Freshman Daniel Green recorded his third block of the season when he swatted away a shot by Duke's Austin Rivers midway through the second half.
