No. 7-seed Wake Forest opens the 2012 ACC Tournament against No. 10-seed Virginia Tech on Thursday, March 1. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Greensboro Coliseum.
How To Catch The Game
- The game will be televised on the Regional Sports Network. Mike Hogewood (play-by-play) and Debbie Antonelli (analyst) will have the call.
Last Time Out
- After a slow start, the Demon Deacon exploded on a 22-2 run and never trailed the rest of the way in a 68-39 victory over Virginia Tech in Winston-Salem.
- Senior Secily Ray shined on her Senior Day, recording her fourth double-double of the year with 10 points and a career-high tying 16 rebounds. Ray also led the team with three assists and a pair of blocks.
- Sophomores Chelsea Douglas and Lindsy Wright also had solid games. Douglas scored a game-high 15 points on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Wright posted her first-career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
- Junior Lakevia Boykin scored 14 points and was 2-of-4 from three-point land.
- The Deacons outrebounded Tech 47-33 and shot almost 45 percent for the game while holding the Hokies to just 25.5 percent from the floor.
- Wake forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 21 points.
Meet the Hokies
- Virginia Tech comes into the game having lost eight-straight games and is 7-22 on the year and 3-13 in the ACC.
- Tech's last victory came on Jan. 26 at Maryland when it upset the Terrapins 75-69.
- Offensively, sophomore Monet Tellier leads the team at 13.4 points per game and she has made a team-high 39 three-pointers.
- Junior point guard Aerial Wilson is second on squad at 11.8 points per contest and she leads the team with 83 assists.
- Tellier, Wilson and junior Alyssa Fenyn all average better than 34 minutes per game.
- Virginia Tech head coach Dennis Wolff is in his first season with the Hokies.
- This is his 18th season as a head coach but his first on the women's side. Wolff spent the last 17 seasons coaching on the men's side at Connecticut College and Boston, where he compiled a career-mark of 277-216.
Series History
- This will be the 19th all-time meeting between the two schools.
- Wake Forest holds a 10-8 edge in the overall series and has won five-straight meetings.
- Wake downed the Hokies last Sunday, 68-39 in the team's only game this season.
- The teams have split the previous two meetings in the ACC Tournament with Wake Forest winning in 2005 and Tech winning in 2006.
