The Demon Deacons have advanced to the WNIT round of 32 for the second time and will face James Madison on Sunday, March 18. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from the Convocation Center.
Last Time Out
- The Demon Deacons hit Charlotte with a couple of big runs and survived a late scare in securing a 72-61 victory in Charlotte on Thursday night in the opening round.
- The win was just the second opening round victory for the Demon Deacons in the WNIT.
- Senior Secily Ray did her best to make sure that wasn't her last game as she tied a season-high with 21 points. She nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds and also had four steals.
- Sophomore Chelsea Douglas hit four three-pointers en route to 14 points while juniors Lakevia Boykin and Sandra Garcia each finished with 13 points.
- Freshman Dearica Hamby was aggressive on the boards all night and recorded a season-high 11 rebounds.
- Charlotte had three players in double-figures led by Amanda Dowe who finished with 15 points and 19 rebounds. Jai Forney chipped-in with 13 points and Jennifer Hailey added 10.
- Wake forced Charlotte into 27 turnovers and converted those into 27 points.
Meet the Dukes
- James Madison has won 10 of its last 12 games and stands at 25-7 overall.
- The Dukes defeated Davidson on Thursday evening 64-49 in Harrisonburg.
- Tarik Hislop leads the Dukes in scoring at 14.8 points per games and she has dished-out a team-high 118 assists. Hislop has also gotten to the line 170 times and is shooting over 77 percent from the stripe.
- Kirby Burkholder is the second Duke averaging double-figures at 10.6 points per contest. She has made a total of 110 field goals with 78 of them coming from behind the three-point arc.
- Nikki Newman is grabbing nearly eight rebounds per game and has recorded 45 blocks on the year.
- JMU head coach Kenny Brooks is in his 10th season at the helm and he holds a career-record of 223-94. He has taken the Dukes to the postseason each of the last three seasons.
Series History
- This will be the 9th meeting all-time between the two schools.
- The overall series is tied at 4-4 and each team has won twice on the others' home court.
- JMU has won the last two meetings, sweeping a home-and-home series in 2006 and 2007.
- The series started back in 1983 with the Deacs winning the first two contests.
