HOLLAND, Mich. - Incoming Wake Forest women's tennis player Kasey Gardiner recently won the No. 1 singles title at the Michigan Division 4 state championships to close out her high school career with an unbeaten singles record.

Gardiner played more than 60 singles matches in her time at the Greenhills School, winning every one of them and dropping only two sets in the process. She won the state singles championship as a freshman in 2009 and this year as a senior - the only two years that she competed in the state tournament.

"I want to congratulations to Kasey on winning another No. 1 singles Michigan state championship," said Wake Forest head coach Jeff Wyshner. "I'm really excited at the talent she will bring to Wake Forest in the fall, but moreso at the value she placed on representing her high school.

"Relatively few top junior tennis players give up their private training time to play on their high school team, and I'm really impressed with Kasey for seeing the value in representing the Greenhills School. That's a great sign that she is going to be a great contributor to the team atmosphere we want to be a key part of every player's experience at Wake Forest."

The Novi, Mich. native clinched the 2012 title with a 6-0, 7-6 (4) victory over Meika Ashby of Hackett Catholic Central High School in Kalamazoo. The Greenhills school finished in third place in the Division 4 team competition.

A blue-chip recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Gardiner is a key part of Wake Forest's incoming class that was ranked in the top 25 nationally. She is rated as the top player in her class from the state of Michigan and the 24th-best nationally.
