WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest football team went through another double practice session on Monday at the Doc Martin Football Complex, as the Demon Deacons head into their second intrasquad scrimmage of the season tomorrow.
On the sidelines and helping the Wake Forest players get through the preseason is a quartet of former Demon Deacons now serving as graduate assistants. Sam Swank, Ryan McManus, Kevin Patterson and Delon Lowe have brought their experience of winning the 2006 ACC Championship back to the team in 2012.
"I think because we were here at such a successful time period, I think the guys respect us a little bit more," said McManus. "We've been there. We've been to the bowl games. We've been to the ACC Championships. We've grinded through these two-a-days with these same coaches, so I think we can relate."
Swank, who was named the MVP of the 2006 ACC Championship game, was quick to point out some similarities between his teams and the current Demon Deacon squad.
"Everyone really grinds hard, which is great. There is a sense of professionalism among everyone. They know that when we're on the field doing drills, it's time to get after it, but off the field there is a sense of togetherness which is really great," said Swank.
The Demon Deacons are now just 12 days away from their season opener at home against Liberty on Saturday, September 1, at 6:30 p.m.
Tomorrow's scrimmage is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at BB&T Field. Admission is free and is open to the public.
