
Women's Tennis Opens Season at Virginia Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will open fall play at the Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend.
The 10-team event will run from Friday through Sunday and will feature teams from Furman, Marshall, UNC Greensboro, Old Dominion, South Carolina, VCU, Virginia, Wake Forest, William & Mary and Winthrop.
The tournament will consist of 16-player singles draws and 16-team doubles draws. Friday's schedule consists of one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles. Saturday will feature two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. Sunday's play will be the final round of doubles followed by the final round of singles.
Wake Forest will return four players from last year's squad, headlined by senior Kathryn Talbert, and will add three newcomers in Kasey Gardiner (Novi, Mich.), Andrea Retolaza Andrade (Vigo, Spain) and Xue Zhang (Weifang, China). The trio make up the Demon Deacons' recruiting class that was ranked as the 25th-best in the country.
All seven players will compete at this weekend's tournament, with all but Talbert playing both singles and doubles.
