Two Duos Reach Doubles Finals at Virginia Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Two Wake Forest doubles teams reached the finals of their flights as the Demon Deacon women's tennis team continued play at the Virginia Invitational on Saturday.
Kasey Gardiner and Kathryn Talbert defeated VCU's Josefin Hjertquist and Olga Barshchevskaya 8-4, and Old Dominion's Diana Ivanova/Aleksandra Mitrovska 8-6 to advance to the finals of the A Doubles draw. Gardiner and Talbert will face off against Virginia's 41st-ranked team of Xi Li and Stephanie Nauta on Sunday for the A Doubles title.
In the B Doubles draw, Karen Forman and Xue Zhang took down Jenny Porter and Kelly Sullivan of Furman 8-1 in the semifinals. They will take on Marshall's Dana Oppinger and Karli Timko for the championship tomorrow.
In singles consolation action, freshman Andrea Retolaza Andrade took down Furman's Amanda Murray in the A-1 Singles draw, and Forman topped Oppinger in the A-2 Singles draw.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
