CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Freshman Andrea Retolaza Andrade notched the first ranked win of her career, beating Virginia's No. 99 Maria Fuccillo, as Wake Forest finished play in the Virginia Invitational on Sunday.
Retolaza Andrade took down Fuccillo by a dominating 6-0, 6-2 scoreline to win the consolation draw of the A-1 singles flight.
Other Deacons to earn singles wins were Kasey Gardiner, who defeated Marshall's Dana Oppinger in the A-2 Singles draw, and Rebecca Siegler, who topped William and Mary's Sydney Smith 6-0, 6-1 in the B Singles draw.
Wake Forest came up on the wrong end of two doubles finals Sunday as Gardiner and Kathryn Talbert fell to No. 42 Xi Li and Stephanie Nauta in the A Doubles championship match, and Karen Forman and Xue Zhang dropped the C Doubles final to Oppinger and Karli Timko of Marshall.
The Demon Deacons will next be in action when it hosts the Wake Forest Invitational, which runs from October 5-7 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
