OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -Senior Andrea Beck is one of 30 candidates up for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award in NCAA Division I volleyball, as announced by organization this week.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete needs to be a senior and excel in four areas - community, classroom, character and competition.
"I am excited about Andrea's nomination for the Senior CLASS Award," said head coach Heather Kahl Holmes. "Her commitment to excellence on-and-off the court, along with her involvement within the community and her selflessness and integrity of character embody everything this award represents."
Beck has proven her success both on the volleyball court and in the community throughout her entire career at Wake Forest. Heading into Friday's match against North Carolina, she leads the team with 174 kills and a hitting percentage of .399. She also is a top blocker on the squad, registering 32 blocks which is second for the Deacs. Last weekend, she registered her 1,000th kill for her career which places her ninth in the Wake Forest history books.
In the classroom, she maintains a 3.955 GPA as a biology major with minors in Spanish and chemistry. Named to the ACC Honor Roll for the past three seasons, she has also been a member of the ACC All-Academic Team and on the ESPN All-District First Team.
A captain for the Demon Deacons volleyball team, she has also been a valued member of the community. Beck has volunteered her time with Habitat for Humanity and with projects on campus. She also coaches youth volleyball and helps out with youth camps and clinics. Also a musician, Beck has lent her talents in playing the oboe to the Wake Forest symphony at several concerts.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in October and will be available on a final ballot that can be voted on by anyone nationwide. A winner will be announced during the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in Louisville, Ky. in December.
