Wake Forest Announces 2012-13 Women's Basketball Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's women's basketball 30-game regular season schedule was announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference office on Thursday afternoon. The Demon Deacons will begin the season on Nov. 11, as they host Coppin State at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Wake Forest will play a total of 16 games this season at home, including nine ACC contests. This season marks the first season in which the Deacons will play an 18-game ACC schedule. Like last season, the Deacs play just two non-conference road games.
Wake is scheduled to play five games on television this season. All five of the games will be carried in the ACC footprint on the Regional Sports Network which includes Comcast Sports Net, Fox Sports Net Florida, Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Carolinas and the New England Sports Network.
After opening the season against Coppin State, the Deacs will take on in-state foe UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Wake Forest has never lost to UNCW, winning all seven meetings dating back to 1981.
The first road trip of the year will be on Sunday, Nov. 18 when the Deacs head to Lawrence, Kan., to take on Kansas. Last year's meeting in the Joel was a thriller as the Jayhawks scored the go-ahead basket with under five seconds remaining in a 74-73 victory.
The highlight of the non-conference portion of the schedule comes over the Thanksgiving holiday when Wake Forest travels to St. Thomas Virgin Islands for the 2012 Paradise Jam. The Deacs will compete in the Island Division against Connecticut, Purdue and Marist. Wake went 3-0 and won the St. John's Division title in its only previous appearance at the Paradise Jam in 2007.
The month of December features five non-conference home games and one ACC road contest. Charleston Southern, Florida A&M and Seton Hall will all come to the Joel before the end of the first semester. The Deacons will then have a two-week break for final exams before jumping into ACC play at Virginia Tech on Dec. 22. Wake topped the Hokies twice last season, including an 80-74 victory in the opening round of the ACC Tournament.
Wake will close the month with games against Campbell on Dec. 29 and Nevada on Dec. 31. This will be the first meeting all-time between Wake Forest and Nevada.
ACC play begins in earnest in the new year. The Deacs are scheduled to host NC State, Duke, Clemson, Miami, Virginia, Maryland, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech this season. In addition to the trip to Blacksburg, Wake heads to Florida State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia and Maryland. Florida State, North Carolina and Miami are the only teams that the Deacs will not play a home-and-home with this season.
The ACC Tournament is scheduled for March 7-10 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. The Deacons advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament last season for the first time since 1988.
