WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Riding a 3-0 start to the season, the Wake Forest men's tennis team will host three matches this weekend, including two against nationally ranked opponents, at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons will host No. 48 Alabama at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and then Penn State on Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. in a dual match that will be split over two days. The match with the Nittany Lions will resume on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., and the Deacons will finish off the weekend by taking on No. 59 New Mexico on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Ranked No. 65 nationally, the Demon Deacons swept Charlotte and No. 71 ETSU in a doubleheader last Saturday. Wake Forest has cruised through its early schedule, going 17-1 in singles matches overall this season.
Senior Amogh Prabhakar, ranked 59th nationally, has yet to lose a singles match. No. 90 Danny Kreyman is also undefeated in singles this season.
Wake Forest has also dominated in doubles, dropping only one match so far. Top Deacon duo Prabhakar and David Hopkins stand at 3-0 as partners heading into this weekend.
The Crimson Tide opened their season with a pair of wins over Alabama State and Jackson State. Jarryd Botha, a senior for Alabama, is ranked No. 79 nationally.
The Nittany Lions are unranked and stand at 1-2, though their two losses were tight 4-3 decisions to NC State and Cornell. Penn State head coach Jeff Zinn will be a familiar sight for a number of Wake Forest players as he served as head coach of the Demon Deacons from 1997-2011.
New Mexico features sophomore Samir Iftikhar, who is ranked No. 73 nationally. Against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, their only match this season, New Mexico won at all positions en route to a 7-0 victory.
