CARY, N.C. - Two Wake Forest singles player and one Demon Deacon doubles team booked spots in the Round of 16 as play continued Friday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional at Cary Tennis Park.
Romain Bogaerts, the top seed in the singles draw, and Jon Ho remain alive in the singles draw, while Pedro Dumont and Jaya Billa advanced to the third round of doubles.
No. 5 Bogaerts dropped the opening set against South Carolina's Thiago Pinheiro but proved to be the better player over the long run, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. He will take on No. 92 Nelson Vick of North Carolina in the fourth round tomorrow.
Ho had a three-set battle over Dumont, his teammate, in singles, eventually prevailing 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (0). The Wake Forest sophomore will face off against No. 87 Joran Vliegen of ECU for a berth in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, Billa and Dumont won two matches by 8-7 scorelines, defeating Rob Galloway and Haris Poric from Wofford and Christian Harris and Daniel Strawn from Clemson. They will play No. 32 Tsvetan Mihov and Pinheiro from South Carolina in the Round of 16.
