WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind 17 kills from Jazmen Russell and 14 from Kristin Grissom, Wake Forest volleyball upset Miami 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-18, 25-21) on Friday night in front of a nationally televised audience.

Wake Forest (14-7, 3-6 ACC) out-blocked Miami 13-8 (13-6, 6-3 ACC), a team that coming into Friday's match, received votes in this week's AVCA poll.

Russell also had six digs in the win while Grissom had three solo blocks and seven block assists. Kylie Hargreaves had nine kills and 12 digs as well. Sophia Dodd led the team with 35 assists while chipping in 10 digs for her fifth double-double this season and Megan Miller had a team-high 16 digs.

From the start of the first set, Wake Forest controlled the pace by jumping out to a 10-3 lead. Miami narrowed the gap to 13-9 before the Demon Deacons created space by going up 21-11 after a block from Grissom and Ashlee Rusk. Wake Forest eventually won the set 25-19 on a kill from Reed.

Miami led the entire second set and won 25-16 to even the match at 1-1 heading into the break.

Similar to the first set, Wake Forest came out quick in the third set leading 9-4 forcing Miami to take a timeout. With the Deacs leading 17-11 midway through, Rusk notched back-to-back service aces which caused Miami to take another timeout. After going up 24-18, a service error from Miami led to the Demon Deacons taking set three 25-18.

The fourth set went back and forth with both teams battling to a 9-9 tie after a kill from Grissom. On the next point, Grissom and Reed registered a block which gave Wake Forest the advantage. The Deacs held the lead the rest of the set, winning 25-21 and taking the match 3-1.

Miami was led by Savanah Leaf who tallied 18 kills along with Misty Ma'A who had 11 kills. Ryan Shaffer had 20 digs for the Hurricanes.

Wake Forest welcomes No. 18 Florida State on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. in Reynolds Gym for the annual Dig for the Cure match.
