SYRACUSE, N.Y. - No. 16 Wake Forest field hockey fell to No. 3 Syracuse 5-2 on Saturday in the first meeting between the teams as ACC opponents.

The Demon Deacons fall to 10-7 overall and 0-5 in the ACC. Syracuse improves to 13-2 and 3-3 in the conference.

Kari Walkley scored her fifth goal of the season in the loss while Taylor Rhea added her 12th of the year on an assist from Walkley. Valerie Dahmen had seven saves in the game.

Syracuse registered the first goal of the game 11:26 into the first half on a strike from Lauren Brooks. Emma Russell put the Orange up 2-0 under a minute later on a one-on-one situation.

Wake Forest outshot Syracuse 6-3 and held a 3-0 advantage in penalty corners at halftime but the Orange were able to convert on 2-out-of-3 shots taking the two goal advantage into the second half.

The Orange scored 3:13 into the second half as Russell tallied her second of the day. Wake Forest countered with a goal from Walkley in the 43rd minute as she put in a rebound off a shot from Molly Murphy.

A little over a minute later, Karlee Farr scored for Syracuse to make it a 4-1 game. Rhea found the cage in the 58th minute on a reverse stick shot from the left side of the circle on a pass from Walkley.

Serra Degnan scored for the Orange a minute later as Syracuse finished the game winning 5-1.

Goalkeeper Jess Jecko had seven saves for Syracuse.

Wake Forest hosts Boston College on Nov. 2 at Kentner Stadium for Senior Day which begins at 1 p.m.
