
Wake Forest Rallies to Overcome Notre Dame 3-2

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Kristin Grissom tallied 16 kills as Wake Forest rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Notre Dame 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 15-11) to pick up its first win in the ACC this season.
Wake Forest improves to 12-3 on the season with a 1-2 record in the ACC as Notre Dame fell to 6-9 and 0-4 in conference.
Grissom hit .303 for the match while tallying four block assists and two solo blocks. Kylie Hargreaves had 11 kills and 15 digs. Sam Boesch and Matalee Reed each had 17 digs each to lead the team.
Reed also had seven kills while Boesch had eight. Megan Miller had 15 digs and Sophia Dodd had 41 assists in the victory.
Wake Forest took an early 8-6 lead in the first set following a block from Ashlee Rusk and Reed but Notre Dame went on an 11-0 run to distance themselves from the Demon Deacons. The Fighting Irish closed out the first set 25-18.
The second set began close until Wake Forest pulled ahead 14-11 midway through. Notre Dame eventually took a 24-22 lead but the Deacs tied it up at 24 after a bad set and an attack error from the Irish.
The Fighting Irish then won the next two points to win the set 26-24 to push their lead to 2-0 in the match.
Set three was close throughout with both teams battling to a 16-16 tie. Wake Forest outscored the Irish 9-3 to win the set 25-19. Boesch and Reed had kills to end the set.
In the fourth set, the teams were deadlocked at 17-17 but Wake Forest gained separation thanks in part to kills from Hargreaves and Reed. Boesch had two solo blocks back-to-back followed by a kill from Grissom to finish the set 25-20 in favor of the Demon Deacons.
After forcing it to a fifth set, Wake Forest went up early on Notre Dame, taking a 4-1 lead out of the gate. The Fighting Irish came back to tie the set at 6-6 and later 8-8 but the Demon Deacons won the decisive fifth set 15-11 highlighted by kills from Boesch and Grissom.
Toni Alugbue had 21 kills to lead Notre Dame while Andie Olson had 12.
Wake Forest returns to action on Sunday afternoon at Duke with the match beginning at 2 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
