COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Wake Forest volleyball fell to Maryland 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 19-25) on Sunday in the last ACC meeting between the two teams.
Kristin Grissom led the Demon Deacons with nine kills on the day while Jazmen Russell added eight. Sophia Dodd had a team-high 20 assists while Megan Miller had 12 digs.
The first set began with each team trading points though with the score tied 8-8, Maryland went on a 7-2 run to distance themselves from the Deacs. The Terrapins limited Wake Forest throughout the rest of the set, winning 25-18.
Wake Forest led in the second set 12-10 but the Terps rallied to take a 17-14 lead. Wake Forest came back to tie the set at 17-17 but Maryland took a late 23-19 lead. After kills from Dodd, Russell and a block from Rusk, the Deacs pulled within one at 23-22, but the Terrapins won the set 25-23.
The third set was tied set 9-9 but Maryland went on a 9-4 run and defeated Wake Forest 25-19 in the set, taking the match 3-0.
Wake Forest had eight team blocks in the match as Ashlee Rusk led the team with two solo blocks and three block assists.
Ashleigh Crutcher led Maryland with 12 kills while Mary Cushman had 10.
The Demon Deacons return home and will host Duke on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Clemson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
