WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship and will host Morehead State in the first round on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
The Demon Deacons made the NCAA Championship field for the 18th consecutive year, tied for the sixth-longest active streak in the country.
"It's still a special moment every year to see the Wake Forest name pop up on there," said head coach Tony da Luz. "It always gets you motivated and pretty excited."
Tickets will be $7 for adults and $3 for seniors (55+), youths (4-18) and students with ID. They can be purchased in advance by calling the Wake Forest Ticket Office at 336-758-3322 or at the Spry Stadium box office on the day of the game.
Wake Forest will host its opening round match at home for the fifth time in the last six years. The Deacs are 11-2-0 all-time in NCAA Championship games at Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest and Morehead State will be facing off in the postseason for the second time after the Deacs posted a 2-0 victory in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Championship. The Eagles won their way into this year's tournament by winning the Ohio Valley Conference championship.
"It's going to be a tough game," said da Luz. "They're an automatic (bid) champion which means that they're good enough to win a trophy, so I expect a very competitive opponent and we're going to prepare as well as we can."
The winner of Saturday's match will play the winner of the opening round match between No. 4 seed Penn State and Monmouth at a site to be determined.
