WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 13 Duke closed out three close sets on Friday, defeating Wake Forest (20-25, 23-25, 20-25) in front of 1,055 fans in Reynolds Gym.
Kylie Hargreaves had 13 kills and Sophia Dodd had 29 assists to lead Wake Forest (15-12, 4-11 ACC). Jeme Obeime had 16 kills to lead Duke (23-3, 14-1 ACC) while Emily Sklar had 15.
Kristin Grissom had eight kills while Megan Miller had a team-high 15 digs.
Duke led early in the first set, going up 15-11 as Wake Forest called a timeout. The Blue Devils kept distance between the Demon Deacons throughout the set though Wake Forest narrowed Duke's lead to 23-19 after a kill from Hargreaves. Duke closed out the set winning 25-20.
Wake Forest came out quickly in the second set, going up on a 4-0 run behind the serving of Reed. After a service ace from Anna Carley, Wake Forest went up 15-7 forcing Duke to take a timeout.
The Blue Devils rallied late to tie the set at 21-21 after a block from the Blue Devils. After a couple contested points, Duke won the set on a kill from Obeime winning 25-23. Wake Forest had five blocks in the second set after not posting a block in the first set.
Duke went up 8-3 in the third set but Wake Forest rallied on a 7-3 run to tie it at 10 and eventually took a 11-10 lead on a service ace from Ashlee Rusk.
The teams played to an 18-18 tie but Duke went on a 7-2 run to win the set 25-20 and take the match 3-0.
Sam Boesch finished the match with 12 digs for Wake Forest while Hargreaves had nine digs, one short of her ninth double-double of the season.
Wake Forest hosts Clemson on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
