
Wake Forest Falls to No. 14 North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball came up short on Wednesday against No. 14 North Carolina as the Demon Deacons fell 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 17-25) in ACC play.
Jazmen Russell led Wake Forest (15-16, 4-15 ACC) in kills with 12 while Kylie Hargreaves added nine. Sophia Dodd recorded 29 assists. Megan Miller led the team with nine digs.
Wake Forest and UNC went point-for-point to start out the first set as Hargreaves registered a kill to tie the set at 7-7. The Tar Heels though went on a 4-0 run and kept distance with the Deacs, closing out the set winning 25-19. Wake Forest held a 2-1 edge in blocks during the opening frame.
The second set was close through the first few points of the second set as Wake Forest pulled within two, making it a 16-14 lead for UNC, forcing the Tar Heels to take a time out. Following the break, Kristin Grissom and Russell recorded a block to come within one point. North Carolina though went on a 9-3 run to win the second set 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match.
Trailing 9-6 in the third set, Wake Forest staged a rally and tied it up at 11-11 after a kill from Ashlee Rusk. The Demon Deacons then took a 13-12 lead after an attack error from the Tar Heels, leading to a UNC timeout. North Carolina responded, going on a late run to win the set 25-17 and win the match 3-0.
Victoria McPherson led North Carolina (27-3, 16-3 ACC) with 13 kills.
Wake Forest hosts NC State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the final regular season match. The Deacs will honor seniors Grissom and Hargreaves prior to the start of the match in Reynolds Gym.
