CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team wrapped up play in the Midwest Blast Sunday with singles action against Missouri.
The Demon Deacons fought the Tigers hard, but won only two of six matches, dropping three three-setters.
Winning for the Deacons were Xue Zhang, who fought past Madison Rhyner 1-6, 7-6 (8), 6-1, and Karen Forman, who cruised by Rachel Stuhlmann 6-4, 6-2.
Andrea Retolaza Andrade, Kimmy Guerin and Luisa Fernandez all pushed their opponents to three sets, Retolaza Andrade doing so against 73rd-ranked Cierra Gaytan-Leach, but were unable to pull out wins.
The Midwest blast was the final tournament of the fall for the Demon Deacons. They will return to action in mid-January, sending representatives to the prestigious National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. before opening dual match play on Jan. 20 with a home doubleheader against College of Charleston and UNCG.
